Parent of Previously Diagnosed Child

Parent of Previously Diagnosed Child
So, you’ve been at this “autism game” for a while now. You have your feet under you in terms of understanding the diagnosis, some experience with the special education system and perhaps even with the other social service agencies and resources available to you. Hopefully you have connected with other parents through a support group, SEPTA or other family advocacy group. Now is a good time to review the “10 Things To Do First” and check on your progress.

But. .. and there is always a “but”. Things are changing. Perhaps you are transitioning to a new school program or to the “real world”. Children grow up and their needs change. As you work on tools to help with one area of concern, another pops up. You have different questions now, more specific to particular ages and stages. Hopefully some of the information here will help you as you plan for the next stages in your child’s life.

First and foremost, we always suggest that you connect with other parents who have “been there, done that”. There is nothing more empowering than parents talking with each other, sharing their experiences and knowledge, especially as we look towards new horizons.
