Social Skills Therapy
People with autism don’t learn or have difficulty learning the nuances of social relationships in the “typical” way. Social Skills programs are designed to teach these specific skills in structured ways to improve and enhance communication and social relatedness. Social skills can be taught using many different educational methods and are an important and vital part of education for people with autism.
There are many different social skills programs that aim to teach various skills at different levels. The most important point about social skills training is that it be ongoing. As we grow up, social skills change and the social relationships become more complex. What is appropriate behavior for a three year old is inappropriate at six, weird at 16 and perhaps even dangerous at 26.
