Alternative Therapies

While early education is the key to improving the lives of children with autism, some parents and professionals believe that other treatment approaches, or alternative therapies, may also play an important role in improving communication skills and reducing behavioral symptoms by improving other areas of development.

These therapies may be offered on a individual basis or integrated into part of an educational program. All of these therapies can help by increasing physical comfort and abilities, improving communication, social and relationship skills, and providing a sense of accomplishment. They can often provide a non-threatening way for a child with autism to feel successful in a safe environment.
